The DX8 transmitter is the most advanced 8-channel system you will find anywhere. Its next-generation Spektrum™ AirWare™ software, built-in telemetry (telemetry module sold separately), Spektrum Data Interface and superior ergonomics will completely revolutionize how you fly. And it’s the only 8-channel that gives you these advanced capabilities, plus the proven speed and precision of Spektrum 2.4GHz DSMX® control.

FIVE REASONS YOU NEED A DX8

Spektrum AirWare™ Software
Spektrum AirWare software was developed exclusively by the Spektrum brand from the ground up. It has all the programming functions an expert airplane or heli pilot could want, but you don’t have to be an expert to use them.

Built-In Telemetry
The built-in telemetry feature on the DX8 transmitter gives you the ability to receive real-time information on things like your model’s battery voltage, signal quality, engine or motor temperature and more. And it will all appear right on the big, backlit DX8 display so you can see it at a glance. (Telemetry module required, not included)

Superior Ergonomics
The weight distribution and ergonomics of the DX8 transmitter provide a sense of balance and comfort that perfectly complements the speed and precision of its DSMX® technology. You really do have to feel it to believe it. Some of the more impressive ergonomic features are those usually only available on much more expensive transmitters.

Spektrum Data Interface
With the Spektrum Data Interface you can use a standard SD* card to share model setups with other DX8 owners, store extra model memory and stay up to date with the latest software releases.

ModelMatch™ Technology
The DX8 transmitter features ModelMatch™ technology that prevents operating a model using the wrong model memory. This feature can prevent stripped servo gears, broken linkages and even a crash due to attempting to operate a model using the wrong memory.

The DX8 transmitter is not compatible with the Spektrum AR6000/BR6000 receiver.

DSMX transmitters operating in DSM2 mode

The Spektrum Team has been investigating sporadic reports from DSMX transmitter owners using their products in DSM2 mode. We have discovered that in some rare instances, DSMX equipped transmitters with the Product ID (PID) within this bulletin, may have a backwards compatibility issue that could cause a "hold" with the following superseded DSM2 receivers: AR500, AR6100, AR6100E, AR6110, AR6110E, AR6200 and AR6300.

Note: This bulletin does not apply to DSM2 only transmitters.

If you have a DSMX transmitter with one of the following PIDs, please complete the Transmitter Service Request Form to receive a prepaid shipping label to send your transmitter to Horizon Hobby for a free firmware update.

  • Click HERE to complete the Transmitter Service Request Form. Only one form is needed per customer (even with multiple transmitters) please check all boxes that apply and make comments in the Notes field).
  • Horizon will pay for ground shipping within the United States and Canada.

Spektrum DX8 Gimbal Bulletin

Spektrum Product Development has been investigating reports from DX8 transmitter customers experiencing servo movements inconsistent with corresponding transmitter stick input.

As a precautionary measure, Horizon Hobby would like DX8 customers to perform the Monitor Test to examine Gimbal controls over the entire range of each axis of input. Expected results for the Monitor Test should show smooth tracking with corresponding stick input. If the Monitor "jumps", hesitates, or is seen in a channel other than what is being tested, please follow the Monitor Test instructions below to test DX8 Gimbal movement:

Monitor Test:

Step 1: Turn on power switch. Ensure left stick position (throttle) is low and Flap/Gyro switch is in position 0 or all the way up.

Step 2: Press the roller to enter the Function List menu.

Step 3: Using the roller, scroll to the bottom of the Function List menu and depress roller to select Monitor function.

Step 4: Note the position of the Aileron (AIL) and Rudder (RUD) positions. Ensure all trims are centered and sub-trims are zero before continuing to Step 5.

Step 5: Move the Throttle (Left side) and Elevator (Right side) gimbals up and down being very careful not to touch the control sticks. While moving the gimbals up and down, note the AIL and RUD positions on the Monitor.

ONLY touch the Gimbal on the outer frame where shown, being very careful not to move the stick as this will falsify the test.

Step 6: If the percentage for the Aileron or Rudder changes by more than 3%, follow the instructions for sending your DX8 transmitter in for inspection.

DX8 Transmitter Service Request:

  • Click HERE to complete the Transmitter Service Request Form. Only one form is needed per customer (even with multiple transmitters). This form covers the DSM2 Mode and Gimbal issues.

  • If you purchased your product outside the US and Canada, contact your local retailer or distributor. A list of International distributors may be found HERE.
  • If you have further questions in the United States, please call Horizon Hobby Product Support at 877-504-0233.

We apologize for this inconvenience. Horizon disclaims all liability and warranties for any consumer failing to act upon this product bulletin. Always check your transmitter and equipment prior to each flight.

While adjusting a servo's Travel Adjust value in the Servo Setup screen, if the clear button is depressed, both the value and the channel's reversing will reset to their default values of 100% and normal.

This reset could cause an unsafe condition if unnoticed, particularly if the channel has been reversed on the throttle.

Recently, the Horizon Hobby Service Center has received a small number of reports from customers claiming un-commanded servo movements and loss of RF link during the activation of the vibrator motor in some DX8’s from the initial shipment.
Horizon requests that all DX8 customers with the Product ID (PID) HS008X or HS009X found in the battery compartment carefully check their radios to determine if their transmitter has this issue prior to flying.

  Date Code Location

Transmitters with a PID other than HS008X or HS009X are not affected by this bulletin.

If you have a DX8 with the affected PID, please perform the following test.

  • Step 1: If your model is electric, unplug motor leads from ESC for safety.
  • Step 2: In the function list, select Timer Screen and set a 0:10s Count Down timer to Tone/Vibe.
  • Step 3: With model powered on and connection established, activate timer and observe servos for un-commanded movement and receiver for loss of RF link.

Should you find that your transmitter is affected by this issue, please contact your nearest Spektrum authorized service center to arrange for a free upgrade to your DX8 performed by a Horizon Hobby authorized Technician.

  • Click here to complete the Spektrum DX8 Return Request form.
  • You may also e-mail the Horizon Hobby Product Support team. Please type "DX8 Return Request Form" in the subject line.
